Last month, NewSat’s Regional Head for Africa, Steve Rich, attended the AITEC East Africa ICT Summit 2012. The event, which was held at the Oshwal Centre, Westlands Nairobi looked into the emerging IT-based economies of Africa and the four focus areas of ICT-empowered services, cloud computing, data security, and mobile applications.
Over the years, the rise of intelligent infrastructure in the region have also contributed to an increased demand for satellite capacity. NewSat’s Jabiru Satellite Program, which aims to launch Australia’s first independently-owned commercial satellite, is expected to deliver high-power Ka band capacity across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Backhaul applications and other communications services will soon rely on the Ka band technology because it offers satellite capacity at an attractive, cost-effective level. VSAT systems in particular will enjoy increased mobility through the new spectrum.
